This is the Bansong Market of Changwon, 

also known as the kalguksu market for it’s famous kalguksu.

When we looked only at the entrance, it looked small, 

but when we went in, it was much bigger and more hectic than we thought.

The signs for the stores also appeared to be neatly organized and 

there were many people~

As the structure of the Banson Market is in the form of the letter T, 

when you walk in straight from the entrance.

You will reach the part where you can go to either sides.

The left side is connected to the apartment complex 

and when you go out to your right, it leads you out to the road.

02 ｜Information

There are various stores in Bansong Market.

Starting from shops that sell fresh fruits and vegetables to clothing store 

that sell all sorts of clothes

butcher shops that specializes in jokbal(pigs’ feet) and real estate offices and etc.

They also sell simple and easy snacks 

such as dak gangjeong(sweet and sour chicken), 

which is a perfect snack for when you are looking around the market.

There are also very delicious rice cakes.

The stores are not separated clearly

and it is called a kalguksu market,

but actual kalguksu restaurants were rare.

However, we liked it as it was clean overall~

It is also known as the milmyeon market, 

and it is a quiet traditional market!

 

01 ｜Visit

This is the Gaeumjeong Market.

Worthy of the name Gaeumjeong Traditional Market, 

the overall atmosphere resembled that of the past.

Gaeumjeong Market opened in 1985, 

and it is a shopping center type mid-sized market, with modernized facilities.

Gaeumjeong Market was the first to be designated 

as the trial market by the city of Changwon.

When we went inside, the market was very quiet.

Expecially the restaurants were not open at that time for the most part.

The walkway was a bit narrow, 

but the number signs helped us to get around without getting lost,

so you don’t need to worry.

There were more stores for side dishes and sashimi open 

as opposed to regular restaurants~

As the walkway is narrow, you have to be careful of the people passing by~

As the stores in the market have mostly small signs, 

it might be difficult to find a store that you might be looking for.

02 ｜Information

In Gaeumjeong Market, there were also more stores 

that had the traditional market feel, as opposed to milmyeon.

The market had everything from these fresh seafood from the Changwon ocean

to various medicinal ingredients~

It also sold other eateries such as Tteok-bokki(Stir-fried Rice Cake) and Mandu(Dumplings).

I wanted to buy some and eat them, because they smelled so good.

I also saw eye catching Tteok(Rice Cake) in various colors and fresh fruits and vegetables!

When you get off at the Gaeum Apartment station, 

Gaeumjeong Market will be located right in front of where you are!

Sangnam‐dong is known to be a place having a huge downtown in Changwon. I will introduce Sangnam Business Zone, a place that does not have anything it doesn’t have!

 

01 | Visitor’s Report

 

 

This is the center of the Business Zone, Sangnam Fountain Square. This place provides a resting area for residents visiting the nearby Business Zone and is settling as a cultural space within the city, such as by holding street performances! They say that this place becomes crowded during the night.

 

As this place is a business zone, there is no brand that is not here! All brand stores have entered this Zone~

 

You can also see Hi‐Mart in a five story building! It was the largest Hi‐Mart building I have ever seen.

 

Famous franchise stores, such as Chakhan Gogi and Yugane, could be seen in various places as well. In addition, Sangnam‐dong is said to be the largest area where entertainment places are concentrated to the south of Hangang.

 

Cafés and restaurants are located in every nook and corner, and it was difficult to decide on what and where to eat~

 

There are not only restaurants, stores, and cafes, but oriental medicine clinics, private educational institutes, hospitals, and dermatologic clinics as well!

 

There is also a baseball park! It would be a good idea to play a baseball game after enjoying a meal with friends~

 

Motels were visible in various places~ During the night, neon signs from the buildings brighten the street!

 

There are lodging accommodations in various places in the street. The range of difference in facilities is extremely wide, so you may want to use the facilities by selecting well.

 

Lotte Department Store is also within the Zone. Lotte Cinema is within the building, where many people visit~

 

Lotte Young Plaza is at a separate place from the Lotte Department Store building. The department store building was extremely large. Many young people were enjoying shopping~ As this place is a place that does not have anything it doesn’t have, I recommend you to visit the Business Zone!

Daeggiri Sangnam Market

 

People say that the people’s economy becomes vitalized once the traditional market becomes vitalized~! An urban‐type traditional market in a modern‐type building located at the downtown of Changwon! I will introduce Daeggiri Sangnam Market.

 

01 | Visitor’s Report

 

 

This is Daeggiri Sangnam Market, which is settling as the representative specialty market of Changwon. It is a modernized traditional market built in a total of three stories, from the first floor to the third floor.

 

This is the character representing Sangnam Market. The traditional Korean golden goblin is known to be a god helping human beings by bringing wealth, and here, is a guide helping Sangnam Market to become younger, to become more energetic, and to realize dreams and hopes!

 

Daggiri Sangnam Market is composed of a total of three floors.

The first floor sells agricultural, livestock, and fishery products and processed food and has a restaurant (sashimi place), the second floor sells apparels, industrial products, and jewelry, and has restaurants and a night market, and the third floor has restaurants and a karaoke.

 

The inside of the market was like a well‐organized traditional market. I expected the market size to be small, however, there really were a lot~~~ of stores!

 

Sangnam Market started as a street store form in a vacant lot during the Japanese occupation period, which had a constant stream of customers seeking to purchase goods and merchants seeking to sell goods, including various medicinal herbs, general merchandise, agricultural products, seeds, blacksmith making farm equipment such as hoes, and cattle market selling cows.

 

On market days, a spectacle was available by the gathering of many people, not only from Changwon, but from Masan, Jinhae, and Gimhae~

 

The current Sangnam Market was able to be established in the current modern building through the urban renewal project, and became a traditional market with high potential with a total number of 588 stores and 296 merchants! This is huge~

 

This is the second floor. The second floor has various types of stores, including stores for beauty materials, clothing repair, curtains, laundry, supermarket, women’s apparels, bedclothes. In addition, unlike other traditional markets, various activities are available through cultural centers (calligraphy, fine arts, yoga, line dance, or dance sports), flee market, open stage, coupons, application for giveaways, and UCC referendum!

There are lots and lots of things to eat on the third floor~ There were so many, including clams, octopus, duck, loach soup, rice soup, spicy stir‐fried chicken, sashimi, steamed dish, meal with a bowl of rice, soup, and side dishes, and entrails, that I could not decide what to eat. ㅠㅠ

 

A sweet smell caught my nose when passing by, which is when I discovered fruit stores! This was Sangnam Market, where people may conveniently use as a resting area, enjoy the various cultural facilities, and feel the atmosphere full of humanity.

This is the parking lot of Sangnam Market, where a maximum of 509 cars may park. The parking fee is KRW1,000 for 30 minutes and KRW 15,000 for one day, and you can use the parking lot for free for a maximum of two hours by receiving a parking pass from the Business Zone!
